What Happens When You Don’t Get AC Maintenance

technicians-performing-AC-maintenance

Springtime is technically here (even if it doesn’t quite feel like spring yet this far north) and as always, we’re encouraging our customers to schedule AC maintenance early rather than waiting until it’s hot enough that you need your air conditioner.

What’s that you say? You’re thinking about skipping AC maintenance this year? Let us tell you about all the things you should expect to happen if you don’t have your annual air conditioner maintenance done.

Increased Utility Bills

About 5% of your air conditioner’s efficiency is lost each year. Maintenance could bring the efficiency right back up, but without it, that drop in efficiency will add up every year, and your air conditioner’s operating cost will go up, too. That means you’ll be paying more every time your utility bill arrives.

Increased Wear and Tear

With decreased efficiency, your air conditioner will have to work harder to get the same job done. Not only that, but lubrication is lost over the course of the year. Components that have moving parts such as fans and motors, will no longer work so smoothly together. Friction is never good and it’s especially bad in your aid conditioner. It’ll slow things down, risk overheating components, and cause wear and tear and strain on the whole system.

Increased Repair Needs

If you say goodbye to regular AC maintenance, you can say goodbye to easy operation and hello to frequent repairs! With maintenance, 85% of potential repairs can be avoided. Without it, you’re much more likely to see problems accumulate, many of which will require exactly what you were trying to avoid: a visit from a qualified AC technician.

Increased Breakdowns

Some repairs are for smaller issues, but sometimes an air conditioner will completely fail to function. This will mean not just needing to schedule and pay for a repair, but also waiting in a hot house until a technician can get to you!

Increased Cost when Repairs Are Required

Did you know that most AC warranty agreements require that you have the unit maintained annually by a professional? Did you also know that an air conditioner under warranty is often less expensive for the customer to have repaired, because the manufacturer may cover the cost of a part or sometimes even labor? Well, without maintenance, you may be looking at a voided warranty and paying the full cost of repairs.

Increased Need for Replacement

Without maintenance, your air conditioner can only be reasonably expected to last five or six years. You’ll need to replace it early and come up with the time and money for a new unit and installation. Regularly maintained air conditioners can last 10-15 fifteen years, but left unmaintained, your air conditioner will be struggling with inefficiency and wear and tear, and it just won’t be able to keep going.

How does that sound? Are you excited to start the summer with an unmaintained air conditioner? We hope we’ve convinced you that AC maintenance in Boston, MA is absolutely worthwhile and that we’ll be hearing from you soon to schedule it!
